Newtown Borough is one of our five Newtopias ( I might be a bit biased about this one). It’s a great little town, beautifully preserved and nicely laid out. Originally settled in 1684 by William Penn and just oozes with history. Take the self guided walking tour to discover the rich heritage of this community. Pop into the hardware store that first opened its door in 1869 and still operates to this day. Take in a movie at The Newtown Theatre (the first movie theatre in America)…you are getting the picture, right?
State Street and Sycamore Street provide the core of the commercial district with shops, boutiques and offices. It also boasts plenty of restaurants and pubs. Whether it’s a nice pint at Isaac Newtown’s, a glass of wine and a meal at The Black Horse Tavern, relaxing outside at The Brick Hotel, a burger or steak at The Temperence House or BYOB to Duck Sauce, Florentino’s, Tiramisu, La Vecchia Osteria and many more.
After a morning of play at one of the three playgrounds, take the kids for an ice cream to The Zebra Striped Whale or let them pick out a book at Newtown Book Exchange. If you choose to live in or around this Newtopia, the kids will go to the award-winning Council Rock School District or you can choose from a wide array of private schools.
